| Danilo P. "Dan" Maffei, APLD
Dan is a landscape designer and Design/Sales Manager who has been with W.D. Wells since 1996. His landscape design philosophy is rooted in the purpose and meaning of the gardens he creates, being careful to understand the requirements of the client and the needs of the site and fusing these into a design that is lively, engaging and appropriate. Dan takes great pleasure in “cracking the code” of the most complex landscape projects in an inclusive design process that draws from not only his own experience, but that of his colleagues.
Dan travels the United States and Europe extensively as a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), where he scours the great garden cities for inspirational gardens suitable for the organization’s annual conference. Dan brings this global perspective on landscape design directly to his clients’ projects. Traditional, contemporary and emerging practices in design, horticulture and sustainability are explored, analyzed, gleaned and brought into everyday practice through these unique and valuable experiences.
Dan makes his home in Kennett Square with his wife, Linda, and their miniature poodle, Mardi. In addition to tending a modest garden in the borough, Dan is an elected member of Borough Council, providing leadership and guidance to this small but energetic town. He also teaches landscape design at the world-renowned Longwood Gardens for both continuing education courses geared toward the homeowner, and the two year residency curriculum known as the Professional Gardener Program, from which Dan graduated. Dan was recently awarded the Lois Woodward Paul Award from Longwood in recognition for excellence in horticulture.
When Dan is not actively pursuing these interests, he enjoys singing with the Chancel Choir of Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester, and traveling for pleasure in search of great food, beautiful architecture and lovely landscapes in places such as New Orleans.
